"You thought my intent was to harm them?" He cast the other a curious look, not judgemental- after all he was one to expect the worst in people himself, simply curious.
"Noble to worry on their behalf, but my intent was to simply knock them out for a time. I am a healer, I would rather not make more work for myself." Which was also why he was so keen to see them knocked out. He was probably going to be healing some of their carnage tomorrow.
"I don't presume to know what your intent was," he says, his tone benign, "but I know from experience that when magic gets involved, the best of intentions can sometimes go right out the window." It's less that he expects the worst of people and more that he's just used to the worst possible case scenario panning out.
He looks a little surprised then.
"A healer?" he asks, and shakes his head. "Ah, no offense, I'm just a little surprised, is all. You're not exactly the image that comes to mind when I think of a restorative mage." Not that Donald fits that bill either. Pun maybe intended. He waves a hand again, venturing an awkward attempt at a smile. "Look, I wasn't trying to bruise anybody's pride or feelings or anything," he says. "I'm not really interested in watching anybody getting hurt unless they're seriously askin' for it, but I didn't really have time to get a good gauge of the situation. My bad, I guess."
That earned the young man a brow raised, he wasn't sure what this one thought were qualities of a healer. In his experience 'tired and bitter' seemed to be the status quo, perhaps this one had only met young ones that have yet to be thoroughly jaded by the tragedies of their work. He honestly had no recollection of what his disposition was when he began healing...
Actually no, it was more like deliberate ignorance. His entire youth was one disaster after another.
"Such perception will come with time and experience." He did think quick on his feet, he would give him that much, "It was a clever ruse, all the same."
[He nodded, a clash of cultures. Given the variety of people here he couldn't say he was surprised at that. What did surprise him was that this was the only escalation thus far. He would have thought there would be more of a bloodbath personally.]
That is an important variable to know as well. [An assurance that he was helping even if his answers could not be as concise as usual.] Is there something else?
[A statement rather than a question, but one that might gently encourage the other to continue. Something to unsettle the spirit of compassion was worth learning about, but not at the risk of Cole's wellbeing. He would tread the matter carefully.]
...They're sleeping very deeply. And they feel... far away. I can't... I don't hear anything, when I'm in there. Even though there's so many of them.
[Which shouldn't happen. Even after some people tried to explain it to him, it still feels... wrong. How can people be there, alive, asleep, but so quiet?]
[Solas gave a slow nod in understanding. He was referring to the hibernation chambers on the fortress in the sky. It was not surprising but Cole's insight into it was indeed interesting.]
It is a curious place, not unlike a mass uthenera, and yet something deeper. What about here, on this world?
[that gets him to look up from his work with curious intrigue, but only for a moment- the work at hand was important even if the woman did appear to be properly recovering without trouble.]
That is a fascinating prospect. Does everyone in your world have some sort of inherited magic? Or is it reserved to certain groups?
[Hmm. How best to explain it without outing herself as a demon, Yukina wonders? ...not that he really seems the type to mind - he seems more curious than anything else - but she can't hep but wonder if perhaps she shouldn't keep it to herself.]
Most people where I come from are born with an ability of some kind. My people are called the Koorime, and all of us have powers like mine. But there are other... tribes, I suppose you could say, that have other sorts of powers. I've met people with powers over wind, and fire, and plants.
It is good to see that even as displaced from our homes as we are, there are still some willing to put their on needs and comfort aside to come to the aide of others.
[He trudges along, testing the ground with his staff as they walk to avoid any sudden trips. The terrain was treacherous enough without being bogged down with mud... at least more than he was from having to kneel from tending wounds.
The conversation- and the breather from attacking birds- was doing well to pick up his mood somewhat.]
[ Reinhardt can only smile a little. He honestly wishes there were more people willing to go out and help. More than just the others from the station. He wished the people of the cities were more open than they were. It hurts his heart to think that they had attacked in such a manner.
It hurts to know that this man would have a harder time of settling than he had had. ] We are all in this together. There are those from this world that embrace us, but to many, I fear we are still seen as outsiders. The only ones that will help us are us. I wish it weren't so. I hope that one day it won't be.
But until that day, I have my shield and I have my armor. [ The armor he's not even wearing because, well, he'd sink even deeper into mire than he already did with his great weight.]
I know I shouldn't press you for it, but having healers like yourself around makes me feel better. I know that we'll reach the city safely because of your efforts back there.
[He was under some assumption there were other elves out there, and that it would probably benefit to be specific.]
A race once immortal and gifted with magic, fallen to wind up as slaves and servants, or misguided nomads trying to form a culture from scraps they do not understand.
A human kingdom, Tevinter enslaves a number of my people, others willingly flock to work as servants to escape the poverty they suffer in the alienages they are forced to reside in.
[But that was neither here nor there now he supposed.]
Hopefully this world does not try to take a similar approach.
With any luck they will think little of us in terms of our appearances.
[He regarded the other curiously after. He was hoping that there would not be situations like Thedas, and yet couldn't bring himself to be hopeful about it.]
Have elves faced similar injustices in your world?
[ He cracks his knuckles. He'll kill anyone who tries to drag him back to that depraved state. Without question, without hesitation.
But he shakes his head at the question. ]
My people bow to no one. But their numbers were cut to the bone by a terrible army of the dead, and many of us were raised to fight in that army's service. We have largely broken free.

Uncomfortable.]

The elves- of Thedas specifically.

But this world seems to know little of elves. I have seen but a few since my time here, and none of them native.
