"You thought my intent was to harm them?" He cast the other a curious look, not judgemental- after all he was one to expect the worst in people himself, simply curious.
"Noble to worry on their behalf, but my intent was to simply knock them out for a time. I am a healer, I would rather not make more work for myself." Which was also why he was so keen to see them knocked out. He was probably going to be healing some of their carnage tomorrow.
"I don't presume to know what your intent was," he says, his tone benign, "but I know from experience that when magic gets involved, the best of intentions can sometimes go right out the window." It's less that he expects the worst of people and more that he's just used to the worst possible case scenario panning out.
He looks a little surprised then.
"A healer?" he asks, and shakes his head. "Ah, no offense, I'm just a little surprised, is all. You're not exactly the image that comes to mind when I think of a restorative mage." Not that Donald fits that bill either. Pun maybe intended. He waves a hand again, venturing an awkward attempt at a smile. "Look, I wasn't trying to bruise anybody's pride or feelings or anything," he says. "I'm not really interested in watching anybody getting hurt unless they're seriously askin' for it, but I didn't really have time to get a good gauge of the situation. My bad, I guess."
That earned the young man a brow raised, he wasn't sure what this one thought were qualities of a healer. In his experience 'tired and bitter' seemed to be the status quo, perhaps this one had only met young ones that have yet to be thoroughly jaded by the tragedies of their work. He honestly had no recollection of what his disposition was when he began healing...
Actually no, it was more like deliberate ignorance. His entire youth was one disaster after another.
"Such perception will come with time and experience." He did think quick on his feet, he would give him that much, "It was a clever ruse, all the same."
